Hardpoint Hand Saw

Hacksaw

The hacksaw has a metal frame and a straight, thin blade that is better suited to cutting through thinner materials such as metal and PVC pipes, rods and brackets. The blade can be removed from the frame and replaced when the teeth become blunt. Standard blades are 300mm (12″ approx) in length, and Junior hacksaw blades are 150mm (6” approx). 

Tenon Saw

A tenon saw has a relatively short blade and a stiff spine running along its back, ideal for making straight, precise cuts. Tenon saws can make intricate cuts to timber, PVC, plastic, and hard and soft woods. The blade of a tenon saw will usually have between 10 and 14 teeth per inch. Compared to other types of saws, tenon saws have more teeth per inch which means they will create a neater finish.

Dovetail Saw

Dovetail saws are very similar to tenon saws, except that they tend to have a thinner blade with more teeth (14-20) per inch. Dovetail saws are used for applications requiring small, very precise cuts or when an elegant finish is required. They are typically used for joint-making, particularly dovetail joints, where two pieces of wood must fit together precisely.

Veneer/Floorboard Saw

A floorboard saw has a curved “nose” at the end. Most models have two sets of cutting teeth, one running along the bottom edge of the blade, like a regular saw, and another along the curved nose. As the name suggests, floorboard saws are designed to cut various floorboards, such as laminate, veneer and solid wood.

A drywall saw, also referred to as a plasterboard or jab saw, has a long pointed blade with a curved handle. Generally, drywall saws are designed to make small cuts in drywall or plasterboard, usually for cutting holes for light switch plates.
